My
Healing Place Expands Across Multiple Fronts in 2012
(February 7, 2012) Austin non-profit My Healing Place is thrilled
to announce several areas of recent expansion. Marsha Cook has joined
the agency as Executive Director. Cook brings a strong and successful
career of corporate and non-profit leadership experience to drive
the agency into its future. Cook most recently served as the Executive
Director of St. David’s Foundation Dental Program. Prior to
St. David’s, Cook worked for Texas Monthly Magazine as an
executive for over twenty years.
“At this stage of my career I feel a compelling need to be
of service to our community. My Healing Place works with people
of all ages who have experienced significant or traumatic loss and
shepherds them through to recovery. I am thrilled to be a part of
that daily transformation,” explained Cook.
Khris Ford, compassionate founder of My Healing Place, is a licensed
professional counselor (LPC-S) and adjunct instructor at The University
of Texas at Austin – School of Social Work. Ford worked for
a grief counseling agency, Bo’s Place, in Houston before moving
to Austin and starting My Healing Place. Formerly the Executive
Director, Ford is now the agency’s Clinical Director. In that
role she is solely responsible for clinical supervision of all programs
and the development of new programs to meet the growing needs of
the Austin community related to grief and trauma.
“The community needs My Healing Place to grow beyond our
original staff, space and service offerings. Our expansion has given
me the ability to relinquish critical executive tasks to Marsha,
while laser focusing my own contributions to the service areas of
clinical and programmatic work. Through these changes we are building
My Healing Place to be Austin’s premier source of transformative
healing and help in times of loss and trauma,” explains Ford.
In January, My Healing Place relocated to larger offices in north
central Austin. The new space allows for more client services including
individual counseling, concurrent support groups, and additional
administrative offices. My Healing Place is now located at 8401
Shoal Creek Blvd.
My Healing Place is a non-profit organization focused on grief
and trauma with the mission to assist children and adults as they
move from loss to a full life through support, therapy, education,
training and consultation. My Healing Place provides individual
counseling and group therapy for individuals who have experienced
the death of a loved one from illness, accident, suicide, or violence;
along with those who have experienced abuse, traumatic accident,
divorce or separation, loss of a job or other losses. My Healing
Place serves parents, spouses, daughters and sons, brothers and
sisters, relatives and friends. The agency’s mission is to
help anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
